Kirstie Alley owns a home here, Luke Wilson has been spotted in downtown drinking establishments, and now Neil Young has been gracing Wichita with his presence. He even says he loves it here.
Is Wichita becoming cool? A celebrity hideout?
Impossible.
Anyway... Spent half of my Thursday with Neil Young and local mechanic Johnathan Goodwin while they do some pretty amazing things to Neil's 1959 Lincoln Continental. He was kind and gracious with his time (though he didn't want to be interviewed on camera) and it was an honor to meet someone who's music I really admire. Makes me wonder how the guys in Skynyrd could insult him with song lyrics. The story about the car is pretty fascinating and what Johnathan Goodwin is doing down at his shop on east Douglas is nothing short of amazing. Read the story here.
The best I can explain the technology in the car is this, and I'm probably wrong: Some sort of turbine generator that can run on anything (diesel, gas, natural gas, vegetable oil, etc) powers a charger which then charges the batteries that make the car go. The car is so powerful, it can actually pay you back, meaning that when you park it at night, you could power your home with the charge in the batteries. This car, which weighs over 4000 pounds, will get over 100 mpg. It has no emissions and requires no roadside fuel stops. Sounds impossible, I know.
Detroit. Take note.

just proves it's possible but big oil don't want none of it
We ran a story about a guy who powers his truck with wood. It's not nearly as cool and he probably doesn't rock as hard.

Ok. Why is that the most awesome thing I've ever seen? Neil Young? I mean really? You are so god damn lucky.
